Back in May we announced that our very own Stewart Miller was taking part in the European Cycling Challenge 2017, where cities in Europe compete to see who can ride the most miles. We are delighted to announce that Stewart came first out of the 393 participating riders from Glasgow, putting Regis Roofing into number one position in the Glasgow City region!
Stewart rode a total of 2227.5km, impressively over 1000km ahead of the second placed rider and regularly put in over 100km a day on his bike – made up of his 33km commute each way to work, a 25km ride at lunchtime and a final 30-35km ride at night.
“Every ride was completed on my trusty fixed gear bike too, so no gears or brakes to help. I also completed some longer rides that didn’t count to the Glasgow total, so altogether for the month of May, I have ridden over 2500Km. Or, from John O’Groats to Land’s End and back again, plus a little bit more.
I would like to thank all the staff at Regis for their support and encouragement throughout the challenge. And apologise for my sweaty cycling kit hanging up to dry!”
Well done Stewart! Here he is about to tuck into a well deserved post cycle breakfast.
The Action Doesn’t Stop There
From cycling to running – next on the agenda is Stevie Gorman who has set himself the challenge of running the Fort William Marathon in July this year to raise money for Action for Children. This demanding multi-terrain route takes in the spectacular sites of Fort William, including Ben Nevis, Thomas Telford’s Caledonian Canal and Neptune’s Staircase, The Commando Memorial, General Wade’s High Bridge and the old railway viaduct.
All of us at Regis Roofing wish Stevie all the very best and we are sure he can count on the team to help get him through the tough training he has been undertaking!
If you’d like to sponsor Stevie and help him meet his fundraising target of £500, his Just Giving page can be found here.
Good luck Stevie!
